Captain Mark

I’ve never been good at self promotion.  I rarely talk about myself and prefer to be judged by my actions rather than words.  Being said, I will try to give you some insight into who I am and what brought me here.

My fishing memories go back to early childhood when I would spend every spare minute roaming up and down the nearby creek catching Bluegills, Pickerel, Dogfish and Chubs.  When I was in third grade, my parents bought a cottage on a small lake in northern Michigan and the day school was out, my mom, sister and I would head up for the summer with dad coming up on weekends.  Most of my nights were spent gathering night crawlers and in the morning, I’d jump in our rowboat in search of Bass, Bluegill, Perch and Northern Pike with hand-me-down tackle.  I’d fish the lake all week but always looked forward to weekends when dad would always find time to take me to the nearby Pere Marquette or Manistee River teaching me the art of Trout fishing.

I was introduced to flyfishing in 1964 by Mr. Dervan, my 6th grade teacher.  He kept a box in the classroom filled with fur, feathers and vices and would teach us fly-tying after school.

work in progress, more to come.
